Who are we?

Nestled in the heart of Duluth’s bustling Canal Park, the Lake Avenue Café is a favorite spot for both visitors and longtime Duluthians alike. Offering a variety of fine foods for discriminating diners, the restaurant is simultaneously elegant and unpretentious. Diners in jeans mingle with their tie-clad counterparts, all the while surrounded by a wide array of original watercolor art.

Lake Avenue Café’s executive chef and co-owner, Patrick Cross, has been with the restaurant since it was founded in 1990. Originally hired as the restaurant’s sous chef, Patrick became executive chef in 1994 and bought the restaurant with his wife, Mary Immerfall, in 1997.

In that time, the Lake Avenue Café has forged a reputation for presenting an eclectic menu that manages to be at once unassuming yet slightly more urban than Duluth’s average fare. Entrées on the rotating menu range from Smoked Turkey Salad, Eggplant and Goat Cheese Pizza, to Bohemian Pork Goulash. Café platters include Falafel, Shrimp & Black Bean Burrito, Vegetable Enchilada. And, of course, they have great soups, salads, and sandwiches, and a fine selection of beverages, and wines.

When you’re in Duluth, make it a point to stop by and see why the Saint Paul Pioneer Press said “A day of watching ore and grain boats coming in and out of the harbor, hiking to the tip of Park Point and eating at the Lake Avenue Café is just about perfect.”
